At work and beyond, Carter is always concerned with tikkun olam-- repairing the world.

His research projects in earning his PhD often revolve around bettering Chicago, including finding ways to reduce access barriers to medicine for low-income residents, examining COVID-19's impact on the LGBTQ+ community and access to PrEP HIV treatment. He has also expanded this research nationally--during the pandemic he focused on expanding the accessibility of antidepressants and studied the impact of the pandemic on mental health.

Outside of work, Carter tutors a third-grade student with learning disabilities through Tutoring Chicago and coaches first-generation college students with America Needs You. With his experience in STEM, he is one of few mentors who can offer field-specific guidance to students interested in following a similar career path.

He also enjoys hosting informative parties about Jewish foods, holidays, and more to educate non-Jews about Judaism in order to reduce antisemitism.

A JEW WHO INSPIRES YOU:
A cliché but incredibly true: my mother. My mom is the daughter of Holocaust survivors and grew up incredibly poor in Israel. She served as an officer in the IDF, moved to the United States after meeting my dad while traveling, and worked her way up to running her company. I will never have the words to describe how grateful I am for the life she was able to provide for me and my brothers.

Running, which prompted me to sign up to run the Chicago Marathon (to be decided if that was a good or bad idea)
